ENV honors the "heroes" in the work of wildlife protection

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Dung, Deputy Director of ENV said: “Today's event recognized the important role of law enforcement agencies, Courts, and Procuracies not only in ensuring the laws on wildlife The exam also contributes to improving the effectiveness of deterrence and crime prevention on wildlife. After a thorough review and evaluation process, the jury has selected individuals and collectives that have made significant contributions to Vietnam's biodiversity protection to present today. They are the role models for their colleagues across the country to follow. ”

This award ceremony takes place in the context that the Criminal Code 2015 (amended and supplemented in 2017) is really effective when increasing the maximum imprisonment penalty for wildlife crimes up to 15 years. ENV has recorded an increasing number of imprisonment sentences of 5 years or more. Recently, in November 2019, an object was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment by the Quang Ninh Province People's Court for illegally capturing and trading 145 individuals of Java pangolin. Ten other subjects in this case were also sentenced to 5-8 years.

Award for best law enforcement officer

for officials working at law enforcement agencies who have been directly involved in wildlife protection cases.

02 individual prizes were awarded to: Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Team Leader of Division 2, Police Department of Environmental Crime Prevention - Kien Giang Province Police and Mr. Luu Phuoc Nguyen - Vice Team Leader of Division 2, Division of Police Department combating environmental offenses - Quang Nam Province Police.

Best judge award

for judgments to enact judgments that have a positive influence on the justice system and contribute to strengthening wildlife protection

01 individual prize was awarded to Mr. Ngo Duc Thu, People's Court of Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh

Best Procurator Award

for prosecutors who have made significant contributions to the prosecution of wildlife trafficking crimes, leading to positive judgments on the justice system as well as increased wildlife protection.

01 individual prize was awarded to Mr. Hua Ngoc Thong, People's Procuracy of Dien Bien district.

for the competent authorities (including courts, procuracies, police, ranger, customs and fisheries) to make significant contributions through strengthening wildlife protection efforts in Vietnam. .

02 Collective prizes were given to Mobile Ranger Team No. 1 - Thanh Hoa Ranger Department and Team 2, Police Department of Environmental Crime Prevention and Control in Ha Tinh.

Special Award - "Outstanding Victory - Breaking the Crime Line for Wildlife"

for an individual or a group that has cooperated to investigate, arrest, prosecute and detain the leader of a criminal network, thereby creating great changes in wildlife protection on a global scale.

After launching, ENV has received nearly 40 nominations from individuals and collectives throughout the country. In July 2019, the Judging Council consisted of representatives of CITES Management Authority of Vietnam, Department of Nature Conservation and Biodiversity, Saving Species Project - United States Development Program, TRAFFIC Vietnam, The representatives of the US Embassy, ​​the German Embassy and ENV senior officials worked together to select the most deserving people.
